Just got back from the Christoph Hess clinic with the three young horses River"s Princess, Rock Solid and Allure. Team Engaged did a wonderfull job at the Rolling Hills Facility in Versailes Kentucky. I arrived Friday night late. River's Princess H, the 4 year old bay mare by River H presented herself very nice. Althou she is barely 9 month under saddle she never put a foot wrong. She has a great temperament. She was very tiered after Christoph pressed her in the trot work until it was to his satisfaction. I told him at the end how little she was actually under saddle since he saw a little talent for half steps and asked for leg yields. But she passed her test with flying colors:-)
Rock Solid, the 5 year old Stallion, presented himself in a good light. Theressa and Michael Schnell the owner, had to drive 4 hours in the morning to be there. By the end of the ride he felt fantastic hes canter so uphill his trot work engaged and expresiv. He is going to be an FEI horse for sure. Saddly Theressa and Michael could not stay for the second day and took Rocky home driving again 4 hours back. He had a long day.
Allure started out a little hesitant the first day but finished strong on the second day. We rode the 6 year old test for Herr Hess, who has judged the Young Horse Word Championships as well as the Bundeschampionat. We nailed the test with all four changes and we got very good scores. I still have six weeks before the first qualifier show so I can finess the ride. I was so proud of Allure. She has been working hard learning the changes and being brave in the canter work and it is starting to pay off. Her trot half passes are increadable.
I am hoping to put a few pictures up as soon as I get them from Shirley Mcquillen.
Christoph Hess is giving a Young Horse Forum in Rhode Island this weekend and I am getting ready to fly out to attend. Should be very educational since we are going view video and to discuss and actually get to participate in judging the young horses.
The new year of 2011
It has been a while that I have updated the news page. Lots has happend at Rhein River Farm in the last year. After spending my winter at the horse shows in Lake Saint Louis I came to the conclusion that I realy needed an indoor areana to keep the horses in proper training.
I always had people interested in Rolex and I made my decision to sell him to Kim Allen-Cooper in Wayne Illionois and he is stabled at Lamplight. They are very happy with him and is now down in Florida at Lars Petersons Legacy Farm where he is ridden by Endel Ots who trains with Lars. He will do his first CDI in February 2011.
I went to work right away to clear the area for the new indoor arena of trees so that the dirt work can beginn with the removal of the stumps and leveling of the ground. Morton started Thanksgiving and finished the indoor just a few days after Christmas. With this very strong and cold winter I am enjoying my new arena very much and have a full barn of horses to work.
I have a couple of very sweet and talented young horses I am excited about a 4 year old half sister to Rolex. She is the last River foal out of a Pageno/Pilot mare and looks very much like her sire. Very sweet, wants to please and very willing to work. She will be 4 in April and my goal for her is to qualify for the Markel/Young Horse Championships. River Princess has three very nice gaits and a great work ethic. Owner Dr. Tristan Lineberry is excited to see her go.
Allure is a very long legged beautiful coming 6 year old black mare by Rousseau out of a
Farrington mare. Her owner Kerrin Dunn from Depauw IN is a small breeder with lots of quality young horses. Allure is currently learning the changes and I hope to have them confirmed enough by spring to qualify for the championship.
I also have Roccodera back in training. His owner Dr. Gruber had a great time with him the last year and just send him back to continue his training.
Romina H is a coming 5 year old full sister to Roccodera and River Princess. She had a very nice colt by Fantasmic/Fidemark last year and after I weaned she got started under saddle and is doing very well. Her new owner Sara Summers is planning on taking her to become a jumper. She will stay until April to have her basic flat work safe. We are planning on taking her to the Lakeside jumping show in April.
Miss Rainbow Cat is also back to get her ready for the upcoming show jumping season.
Off course Casey Jones is like my own. After beeing grand champion last year at the "Robert Murphy Show" and placing in the Prix in Cleveland TN and winning a couple of 3'9" classes he is ready to go.
Unico is a bay dutch gelding I am getting ready to move up to third level. Rebecca Mingari the owner would like to do the Junior program with him next year and we are allready in full gear to work toward that goal. Both have to learn a lot.
I sold Iowa Special to a young Lady here in town. Marleigh Hendricks will hopefully take him to the local jumping shows and get lots of ribbons. Iowa is careful and fast and has placed in every class we have shown him in. He is a lot of fun.
It has been a beautiful fall and I am still able to work the horses at home. Hopefully the weather will hold for just a little while longer so I do not have to move the horses to the indoor until January. Leaving for the H/J Show in Lake St. Louis for the two weeks in Dec. and than the year is pretty much over. It has been a good year and I hope everybody can look back and say that they made it thru the tough times alright.
We arrived in Chicago and it rained and rained. The rings are wet and the footing soupy. Rolex settle in and we worked just for a little while in the rain. With the nice cool weather and not gotten out the day of the trailering he was very fresh. It cleared for the jog and I got the first ride in the Prix St. Georg at 8am. The ring was soupy but not slippery. We ended up in 8th place and I was very happy with that since we did have mistakes in the tempis. We came into the Championships in 14th place so I felt like there was a chance to move up a little. On Sunday I had a better ride and we placed 11th and since the Sunday class counted for 60% we ended up in 11th place overall in the championship. Rolex did very well and I was very proud of him.
The following weekend I went to the MSEDA Dressage Show at the Horse Park in Lexington Kentucky with a young horse of my Father Rocco. He won his training level and got high score of of the show with a 76.75%. Rolex had been working so hard to get qualified for the Developing Horse Championship and did so well the weekend before that I took him and just let him have some fun at the Robert Murphy Fall Jumping show. He had a good time winning 3 out of his 4 classes. He really is a jumper by heart. Him and I had so much fun I decided to come back the second week of the jumping show and we won the level 6 (4'3") and placed 5th in the $ 3000,- Rood and Riddle Mini Prix.
